Our proud history of compassionate service
St John of God Health Care, as we know it today, is built on a rich history of philanthropy that dates back more than 500 years to our patron saint himself, John of God. He remains the inspiration for our Mission and we are proud to carry on his ideals in our work today.
In 1895, the Sisters of St John of God travelled from Ireland to Australia to care for the sick in Western Australia, which then led to the opening of hospitals in WA, VIC and NSW, and eventually to the establishment of St John of God Health Care.
Since the inception of St John of God Foundation in 1994, we have been privileged to work together with generous individuals, families and businesses in our community to support outstanding treatments, care and research in our hospitals and services across the country.
Shaping the future of health care
I’m proud to lead St John of God Health Care as we to continue to evolve as an organisation, to respond to the health care needs of our communities. In Richmond, NSW, we have embarked on a major redevelopment to provide world-class mental health facilities and treatments for Australian veterans and first responders. In Subiaco, WA, cutting-edge research into respiratory illnesses will mean even greater impact for patients – potentially across the globe. As ever, providing hospitality and excellent patient care remain our utmost priority.

I’d like to acknowledge the many St John of God Health Care Trustees, Board members and caregivers, both past and present, who have played a significant role in our journey, and supported the Foundation. Caregivers on the front line are crucial to identifying opportunities in our hospitals and services, and we are so grateful to those who have generously shared their time, knowledge and experiences to help ensure better health care for our communities.
It is also our privilege to work together with you, our compassionate supporters, to transform health care for the communities we serve.
