For people with a loved one who is seriously ill, this Christmas will look very different.
My name is Tori, and I'm a palliative care nurse. Caregivers like me have the honour of providing compassionate care for people with life-limiting illnesses, supporting them to have the very best quality of life in the ways most meaningful to them. It can be challenging, but it is also a special privilege be a part of someone’s life at such a vulnerable time.
But even when a patient and their family have access to exceptional care, it can still be a time of overwhelming emotion and stress. Especially at Christmas, a time of great meaning to us, and many patients and their loved ones.
For people in palliative care, it’s often the little things that mean the most.
Whether it’s helping someone to feel more like themselves by dressing in their favourite clothes, or simply holding their hand, my goal is to make each day as comfortable and meaningful as possible for patients and their families.
Each and every person’s journey is unique and can change daily, making it so very important that our care is provided in a way that specifically meets each individual’s needs and that of their families.
Your gift today can help to make Christmas a little bit brighter for people at one of the most vulnerable times of their lives.
