Each year at St John of God Health Care, we celebrate Foundation Day, a day that gives us a chance to pause and reflect on the foundations, history and heritage of our organisation.

Foundation Day is an opportunity to honour the immense contributions and the founding spirit of the Sisters of St John of God, who have brought dignity and hope to thousands of people across the world for over 150 years. We acknowledge and celebrate the Sisters’ enduring vision, and their commitment to making a difference in the lives of those they served.

Today, the Sisters continue to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Most recently, they have generously supported the empowerment of women through education, through establishing the Sister Bridget Clancy Scholarship. This new scholarship was awarded to 33 caregivers across 12 of our hospitals in 2022, and will have a lasting, positive impact for the scholars and their communities.

On behalf of the St John of God Foundation team, I’d like to personally express my deep gratitude to the Sisters, for everything they have achieved for our communities across Australia, and all they continue to do.

This year, the theme for our Foundation Day is ‘Believe… making a difference’, and is underpinned by the scripture from Thessalonians 5:11: ‘Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.’

Thanks to the kindness of people like you, our donors, we have the privilege of carrying forward the Sisters’ lasting legacy of making a difference in the lives of others. Furthermore, through your tremendous generosity, we’re able to support and build up our patients, caregivers and communities, and to continue our healing mission, as inspired by the Sisters.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your commitment to our mission.

Yours in gratitude,

Bianca Pietralla
