Jennie Fraser, a caregiver (staff-member) of over 18 years, is striving to raise $3,000 for the Foundation to support cancer research at St John of God Subiaco Hospital.

Jennie works as a nurse in the clinical trials unit and Ivy Suite, where chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other radiation treatments are carried out.

Jennie had long planned to travel to Borneo this April to complete the Sandakan Trail – a challenging six-day trek in severe humidity with temperatures around 30 degrees – in the lead up to the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.

With travel restrictions in place, Jennie is taking her challenge virtual, determined to meet her fundraising target to support cancer research at St John of God Subiaco Hospital. With the assistance of an app providing a virtual 'tour' of the Sandakan Trail, Jennie will begin her challenge on April 25th.

April 2020

Travel plans have been cancelled – yet I’m excited to share where I would have been.

I will continue to walk the trek in “virtual reality” to honour those who can no longer.

I will share photos and snippets of information about my trek, less the extreme physical challenge it would have been.

I dedicate this virtual trek to my Mum who passed on Dec 24th.  In 11 short days we lost our vibrant, beautiful mother to pancreatic cancer. No symptoms, no time….

Please support me to honour all those that “can walk no longer “

Thank you all for your support.

During Jennie’s preparation for the challenge, her mother was unexpectedly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and heartbreakingly passed away just 11 days later on Christmas Eve.

Jennie is dedicating the walk to her mother, and all the other people “who can walk no longer.”

With travel restrictions in place, Jennie will complete her challenge through virtual reality, determined to meet her fundraising target to support cancer research at St John of God Subiaco Hospital.

With the assistance of an app providing a virtual 'tour' of the Sandakan Trail, Jennie will begin her challenge on April 25th, and will post regular updates to her online fundraising page.

Jennifer’s decision to fundraise for St John of God Foundation to support cancer research within the hospital she works is a wonderful display of compassion in action from one of our own caregivers.

In the lead up to this challenge, Jennie had been tackling Jacob’s Ladder stairway on the weekends and Reabold Hill on weekdays in preparation.

"Many people want to donate, or have shown me support me in other ways, like joining me for training in Kings Park and encouraging me on Jacob’s Ladder" – Jennie Fraser.
